Sad news of the death of DJ Williams

It is with deep sadness that we have to inform you David Williams affectionately know as DJ passed away this morning after a long spell of ill health. Our heartfelt condolences go to his brother Barrie & the rest of the family.

DJ joined the club in the 1963 – 64 rugby season. Over his rugby career at the Ups, he played for the 1st XV & in later years he captained the 2nd XV for three seasons from 1969 to 1971.

It’s not just turning up on a Saturday to play it’s often what you do off the pitch that makes you a great clubman.   DJ epitomised the term clubman. Following his retirement from playing he was a regular on the touchline barely missing a match to support the boys in green & white and supporting in the bar after for the post- match analysis.  A regular at any social events even on a curry night when he was regularly heard to say “I don’t like curry I’ll just have chips.” If it was for the club he was there.  Anytime volunteers were called to arms again DJ would be one of the first to put his hand up.  You will be sorely missed by us all at Fairwood Lane DJ.
