Senior Rugby Update

The 1st XV got back into winning ways when they welcomed a strong Birchgrove team to Fairwood Road. The crowd enjoyed a great spectacle of Division One rugby with a tough battle to gain superiority in the first half. The whistle for half time saw us going in 16-10 up with Peter Anson kicking three penalties & the conversion following an interception try by outside half Alex Wadling. The opposition points came from a penalty try and penalty kick.
The performance in the second half was the best 40 minutes of rugby by the men in green this season. The forwards continued to dominate the scrum then adding domination at the breakdown enabling some excellent moves and slick handling by the backline. Two further tries by Alex Wilson & Alex Wadling expertly converted by Peter Anson who also added a penalty brought the final score to 33-13.

Meanwhile the Surfs welcomed a very strong Waunarlwydd 2nd XV to Fairwood who stepped in last minute when Gowerton were unable to visit. It was a hard day for the squad with a mixture of Youth and experience, many of the latter returning following babies & weddings. The final score was 5-31 with a solo try for the Surfs by outside half Alex Withers.
Head coach Ian Lewis complimented Waunarlwydd for stepping in at short notice adding a massive shout out to our Youth boys and coaches for making themselves available playing with great attitude against a well drilled outfit.
