We are sad to announce the death of our oldest past player. John S.P Evans has passed at the age of 95. He played for the club for a number of years first playing in season 1948 - 1949. After his playing career John turned his hand to refereeing where he achieved international honours. Club President Richard Gwynn recalls: On Armistice Day 1978 he was a touch judge at the Wales v New Zealand match when the NZ second rows, Andy Leslie and Frank Oliver dived out of a line out near the Wales 22 near the final whistle. This fooled the referee, Roger Quittenton, who awarded a penalty which was kicked by Brian McKechnie for New Zealand to win 13 - 12. John as touch judge could not in those days give any advice to the referee. That day he ran the line wearing his club sweater and socks.
We send our heartfelt condolences to John's family. His funeral will take place this coming Friday 2.30pm at Morriston Crematorium.
