Passing of Brian Simpson the oldest surviving club player

It is with deep sadness that we have to inform you of the passing of Brian Simpson.

Brian, having been born in 1926, was the oldest surviving club player. He first appeared for the club when it was reformed following World War II and was elected to the committee in 1959. Following the retirement of the long serving H E Jenkins, he was elected chairman in 1962, but had to stand down early the following year when he was transferred to Bristol by Lloyds Bank. He became president of the club in 2002 a position he held until 2009.

Brian was a well-known figure in Swansea a comment made since his passing, "If there was a committee to be on Brian was on it from Jazz to Sport Clubs."

Brian also served as treasurer of Swansea RFC for a period and outside of rugby was the Honorary Vice President of the RISW and served as the High Sheriff of West Glamorgan.  Brian was also recognised for his work and contribution and was awarded a Queens honour.

Brian is pictured in the 1st XV squad photograph 1948-1949
