Chairman's New year update

Evening all,

Hope you all had a great Christmas and managed to enjoy yourselves during these strange times.

Just wanted to take the opportunity to summarise the year and update you on the club etc.

The pitches are looking in fine form and are responding to the tender touch of Cam Low and his band of assistants. The bottom posts have been delivered and after many alterations the fixing kits are ready for the install in the new year.

The club building is locked down with all appliances turned off and central heating on eco setting (off until temperature drops to freezing) This will assist in keeping the finances as healthy as possible.

We have currently collected around 90% of memberships and  considering the restrictions we are facing and the lack of access our members have had to the  club facilities it is truly a credit to everyone showing their support and commitment. Peter Hansford has carried out a sterling job this year managing our club finances. His determination and drive around managing our income and expenditure whilst seeking financial assistance from all available grants has kept us in a reasonable position.  However, when we are open its all your responsibilities to drink as much as possible (sensibly) to support your club and drive our profits back up.

As for Rugby (or lack of it) We are still under the guidance and management of the WRU and Welsh government. As soon as lock down is relaxed we should return to training and TAG rugby. The WRU have announced that the season as been extended to beyond May so there is still a chance we can see some competitive rugby

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our club members and supporters who are currently supporting us through the pandemic. Whether working in the NHS, Police, care sector,  as a key worker or indeed volunteering in any capacity to assist in the pandemic. The last 10 months have been devastating for many families and communities without your commitment and professionalism the situation would have been unthinkable. We will always be in your debt and behalf of everyone at Swansea Uplands RFC.  THANK YOU

With the approval of two vaccines, we should start to see the pace of inoculations increasing  there is definitely light at the end of this very long tunnel.

Anyway, it has been a strange year January and February may also be tough and come with its challenges but come the spring we will be making headway with the vaccinations and by Summer 2021 we will on our way to normality.

REMEMBER:   HANDS :  FACE   SPACE.

Please stay safe and remember you are surrounded by friends so please just pick up the phone if you need anything even if it is for a chat.

Happy New Year and see you on the bright side.

Best Wishes
