Senior Squad Christmas Message

With six more sleeps to go to the big day and as we get ready for another spell of zoom quizzes, Netflix and click n collect, the senior players and coaches would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas. This year’s Christmas will be a little different as the club’s celebrations are put on hold. Our centenary season has also been temporary postponed by the pandemic and we all look forward to reinvigorating the 100-year party next year. The memory of bad singing and the smell of Pat’s sausage and chips keep us going while we wait for the Cavalry to arrive and the Rugby Gods to guide us.

Although the season and training have been decimated by the virus, the players have been working hard when the guidelines allow us. Training sessions have been enthusiastic with good numbers preparing well, (socially distant rugby and COVID-19 restrictions in place). When Return to Contact Rugby returns, we can assure you the senior players will be ready and game fit. The route back is challenging, but the club and senior squad are working hard to achieve this.

On a good note, we are unbeaten this season We have a group of special people at Swansea Uplands RFC who work endlessly to keep the club in good shape and sustainable. The players would like to thank the selfless volunteers that underpin our club, and for the graft they put in at Fairwood Towers to get the team across the whitewash on a Saturday afternoon. The players would also like to show their appreciation to the grown-ups on the board and committee and hope Santa comes for them this year. They continue to be an essential cog in The Green Machine. A mention goes to the ghost of Christmas past and our own Jacob Marley; Mr. Chairman – Peter Evans whose spirit has wandered through the empty changing rooms of Fairwood Towers during lockdown. His drive, vision and enthusiasm never cease to amaze. Another special thanks to you all in the SURFC community for your support and backing that give us that solid foundation to boost us on a match day. When we do manage to run on to Cam’s turf again, we intend to entertain and cast coronavirus to a distant memory.

The world is a little strange at the moment so all of our thoughts go out to families who may be having a different Christmas and tough times ahead. So, apologies for the long post but on behalf of Swansea Uplands RFC Senior Playing Squad and Coaching Team we would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and look forward to a competitive 2021 and seeing you all again soon.
