The 1^st XV travelled to Pencoed yesterday scoring an impressive eleven tries with a final score of 17-71.

Tries came from outside half Dan Bennett with four the last of which was an outstanding individual effort. Ben Ghose and Alex Wadling both with a brace each and Kyle Perkins, Alex Margetts and Pete Anson adding a try each. Pete also slotted over eight penalties impressive given the weather conditions courtesy of Storm Kathleen.  Post match, the squad made a stop off in the Uplands where they were treated to a few rounds bought by Head Coach Mal Jones, Physio for the day Simon Davies, Chairman Peter Evans & Captain Mike Evans. Thank you all.

It’s an exciting run in to the business end of the season with any two of five teams still in the mix to join Aberavon Green Stars in Division One next year. 

The SURFs welcomed Pontarddulais 2^nd XV in the quarter final of the Vaughan Sounds Cup but it wasn’t our day.  Leading at half time 10 points to 3 thanks to a try by elder statesman Jordan Williams, a penalty and conversion by Joe Singh.  However, Bont came back in the second half and were leading 10-15 until a SURFs try which brought the full-time score to 15 all when controversy struck.

Two tries a-piece usually suggested the away team would go through, as per the ref's call at full time. However, the WRU assessor on the touchline confirmed otherwise, and that 10mins each-way extra time was in order. Pontarddulais opened their OT account with a penalty, and then a pair of tries (one in each half), taking the victory that they initially felt they may have been robbed of.

Despite the SURFS not having played together for months, the grit and endeavour was faultless. It would be unfair to pick out individual performances but safe to say it was fabulous to see number of old heads, new faces, SURFS regulars and some supporting faces from the Glads and Vikings pulling on the green and white jersey and playing so passionately. Unfortunately, we couldn't replicate the cup run of last season, but the squad showed that they're only a couple of key players short of a great outfit.  As a club we can’t underestimate the importance of the SURFS players contribution to the club and success of the 1^st XV.  A mention also to the group of volunteers who support the squad on the day.
