"Crunch Match" in a Successful Cup Run

This coming Saturday 18th February the club will be hosting what is probably the biggest game it will have played in its history.

We have been drawn against Cilfynydd RFC in the Quarter final of the WRU National Bowl competition.

To reach the quarter final we have had to produce wins over some tough opposition in the earlier rounds , namely: -

  • 17th September.  SURFC 45 – Fall Bay RFC 0
  • 8th October.  SURFC 38 - South Gower RFC 7
  • 29th October SURFC 45- Llandybie RFC 3
  • 10th December  SURFC  22 - New Dock Stars RFC 13
  • 14th January Trimsaran RFC 21 – SURFC 39

We are now down to the last 8 teams in the competition and are just two matches away from a potential final at the Principality Stadium. This is a big match for us.

Cilfynydd RFC are based in Pontypridd and have also had a strong run in the cup so far. They are a solid outfit, and like us have some serious talent. We expect this to be a humdinger of a match on Saturday and are putting all our efforts into making this a special day.

Cilfynydd have kindly given us forward notice that they will be bringing down thee large coaches  with 200 supporters at least.  We want to match and exceed this support for our boys at home in this crunch match and invite all SURFC supporters across the whole club structure and across the land to make the trip to the club this Saturday to support the “Green Machine” in this vital semi final match. If you’ve got green, wear it, and be proud and loud.

As we are anticipating this to be the busiest day in a very long time, we are having to take serious organisational considerations for parking and marshalling of visitors.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, DO NOT travel by car if you can possibly avoid it. Get dropped off.

ALL Senior Players are required to park at the Community centre if they have to drive.

We will have parking enforcers on the ground to make sure all things go as planned.

Please do not park in Fairwood Lane, this must remain clear for access for emergency vehicles.

If you turn up past 1400 on the day you will not be granted vehicular access to the club and will be required to park in Upper Killay somewhere and walk to the club.

All sections of the club are politely requested to supply some willing volunteers to help us make the day go as planned. The committee needs your help guys and gals. Volunteers are asked to muster at 1230 at the club to be allocated roles and High Viz, radios etc.

Please arrive early and park sensibly & safely if you must drive. We look forward to seeing you and hope you will enjoy the atmosphere with us as we build up to this huge match for the club.

Kick off is at 1430 and we hope to see the “Green Machine “Support out in force for the day.

Thank You in anticipation of your help and support.

The Committee of Swansea Uplands RFC.
