In contrast to the game against Birchgrove where the team got upset when they were losing, today you all kept happily playing and asking to get the ball; so well done to everyone today- George, Jack, Joe, Louis, Austen, Bleddyn, Rocky, Macs, Olly and Harri.
Positives You were talking to each other as friends and there was no bickering with each other. Everyone was keen to get the ball to run with it. There was even a try scored after the call went out for a "Gabe ball" right from the restart, running through the whole Gowerton squad in a totally straight line to the try line. I'm impressed that you have started to develop your own moves and names for them. If you'd been tagged you were passing to a much wider range of players and sometimes tried to pass the ball a long way away from where you've been tagged, away from trouble. You all made lots of effort to tag the other team.
There were lots of things that we can learn from today's game and improve Gowerton were concentrating on playing rugby right from the start. If you guys had been too then you would have done better against them. I'd like to see you running forward into open space not into masses of bodies, across the field or backwards, and I'd like to see you running as fast as you can as soon as you've got the ball. I'd like to see you all running even when you haven't got the ball- either to support your team's ball carriers (which means you will get the ball passed to you more often ) or to defend against the other team if they have it. Spacing out when in defence and attack.
This well drilled Gowerton side beat you but I'm proud of the way you kept playing. Well done.
Richard
